George Lucas said there would never be another Star Wars feature film in theaters, but he’s suddenly reversed himself. Sort of. This new Star Wars “film” is actually a couple episodes of his upcoming Clone Wars animated TV series smushed together to form a “feature.” So, you can either watch this in one lump — in 3-D no less — in a theater with other fans, or just sit on your butt at home and watch it on TV, with no 3-D. The choice is yours my young padawan. Or whatever.
What’s even more interesting is ol’ George flipping Fox the bird by releasing this “film” with Warner Bros. Up until now, Fox has released every Star Wars film.
The Clone Wars animated film will be in theaters on Aug. 15. When the show hits the TV airways, on Cartoon Network and TNT, is still TBA. Here’s a brief rundown on the show via Variety:
The “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” movie is expected to run around 100 minutes and pick up between episode II and III. Anakin Skywalker is not yet Darth Vader. The story will then continue in 30-minute smallscreen installments.
