As I mused the other day, I thought maybe a teaser trailer for J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek relaunch could re-energized my now cold, dead Trekkie heart and get me immensely psyched for the film. Well, I finally saw the teaser before Cloverfield (film review here) over the weekend and if you missed it you can watch it online at Yahoo. Well, no such luck in the psyching dept.
Allegedly, all the footage in the teaser trailer was made just for the trailer and won’t be in the finished film. And, aside from better special effects, this sequence isn’t much different than the building/repairing of the Enterprise opening shots from the original Star Trek: The Motion Picture. The closing quote from Leonard Nimoy, I’m assuming lifted from The Wrath of Khan, isn’t enough to get me jazzed just yet.
Oh, I still really want to see it. Not enough to go on Christmas night 2008 when it opens, but I’m sure that weekend after, at least. After being burned on the final two ST:TNG pictures and on Enterprise the series, J.J. really has to work overtime to create a monster hit here. Maybe a full trailer in the next couple months will do the trick. Still keeping my fingers crossed.
